Live and Listen talks about our upcoming show in Atlanta!

Atlanta music fans are in for special treat on Saturday night, as Hayley Jane & The Primates are set to headline Smith’s Olde Bar. The Boston-based Americana rock-and-roll quintet has built notable momentum in recent years, and they don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Recently supporting acts such as Umphrey’s McGee and Tom Hamilton’s American Babies, the band looks to continue growing its rapidly expanding audience with this upcoming run of shows.

Hayley Jane become a household name across the Northeast festival circuit, and the rest of the country is now realizing why. The lead singer’s powerful stage presence and soulful vocals bring and element that separate this band from the pack, and they’ve only scratched the surface. If you’re in the market for an incredibly unique, dynamic live music experience, we recommend catching Hayley Jane & The Primates on this Southeastern run. See below for a complete list of dates.

Mountain Times Speak with Hayley Jane about Primates History and More!

By DJ Dave Hoffenberg

This Thursday making their debut at the Pickle Barrel is a band not to be missed: Hayley Jane and the Primates. I first saw this band two years ago at Jerry Jam in New Hampshire and became an instant fan. I’ve seen them twice now and the band is very tight and Hayley Jane is a unique singer. I had the pleasure of speaking with her to learn more about the band, which she describes as “a genre crazy theatrical production.” She sometimes brings dancers with her — that’s the theatrical. When I first saw them in 2016, she and the dancers blew me away.

She continued. “It’s really just my brain to music, which can be scary. It’s emotional. We try and take people on a ride that isn’t necessarily a full-time party. It’s more like life with its super ups and super downs, it can get scary and it can get sad. But it always comes back to love and positivity. The boys like to jam out so there’s elements of jam there plus funk, folk and Americana. To me, I like to say it’s pure emotion. We like to make people feel things. In the end, that’s what is therapeutic about music.”

The band hails from Boston, although Hayley Jane divides her time between there and Burlington, Vt. Occasionally she will do a month-long residency at Nectars. Haley Jane is the lead singer and also plays the washboard. The Primates are made up of Justin “Juice” Hancock (guitar/vocals), Josh “Tree Beard” Carter (bass/vocals), Greg “Smitty” Smith (guitar/vocals) and Ryan “The Claw” Clausen (drums).

Hayley Jane and the Primates on Friendship, Loss and Laughter in Relix Magazine!

Relix magazine has a special treat for Hayley Jane and the Primates fans on page 21 this month! We are so honored to be in included in the Jan/Feb issue of our favorite jamband magazine. This issue even has one of our favorite artists on the cover, Beck! The article is titled “Hayley Jane and the Primates on Friendship, Loss and Laughter.” Relix writer Raffaela Kenny-Cincotta interviewed Hayley, Justin, and Josh over the phone from a greenroom in Denver!

“The Primates’ joy is palpable—Hayley Jane captivates her audiences with the kind of theatrics usually reserved for Mick Jagger or Janis Joplin, and all five band members wear permanent smiles as they jam along genre lines, spinning together influences from the ‘60s to the ‘90s.”

Hayley Jane Featured in the Boston Herald!

Jed Gottlieb of the Boston Herald writes “Plenty of musicians keep busy schedules, but it’s hard to imagine anyone competing with Hayley Jane’s calendar. Jane came up in the Boston scene over the past few years while fronting her funky, soulful band, the Primates, who seem to be permanently on tour. Less than six months ago, Jane and the Primates released the LP “We’re Here Now,” a forceful rock album with detours into folk, r&b and Afro-pop. Currently, she’s finishing up a project with fellow Boston scene alum Ryan Montbleau called Yes Darling. The duo composes humorous and heartfelt songs about love, romance and your partner driving you nuts. And somehow Jane has found time to book a Tuesday night residency at Atwood’s Tavern in February.”
