Here’s a little about The Nth Power

Proving that soul music can be exponentially greater than the sum of its parts, The Nth Power is on a mission to share the light. Formed during an impromptu late-night jam at Jazz Fest 2012 in New Orleans, the relentlessly funky and soulful band believes in music as a higher power—tapping into an energy that is simultaneously sexy and spiritual, with songs that will inspire audiences to dance, groove, make love or just stand there with goose bumps.

The quintet hails from diverse musical backgrounds, races and creeds. Female powerhouse Nikki Glaspie was Beyonce’s world-touring drummer for five years before she joined Ivan Neville’s New Orleans funk outfit, Dumpstaphunk. Bassist Nate Edgar of Groovechild and John Brown’s Body perfectly compliments Singer and Guitarist Nick Cassarino who came from the Jennifer Hartswick Band and toured with Big Daddy Kane. Next add West African Master-Percussionist, Weedie Braimah to the mix with his insurmountable world beat rhythms. Finally rounding off the ensemble is the newest and youngest member, Courtney J’Mell Smith who brings his soulful vocals and keyboard abilities to the table.
“Just know that when you hear this music, you’re going to feel something—you’re going to connect with something higher than yourself,” explains Braimah.

The Nth Power’s 2013 independent EP, Basic Minimum Skills Test, showcases a first glimpse of the spark shared among the group, delivering gospel-style vocals with soul, jazz, funk and world-beat riffs in nearly mathematical fashion.
“It’s my dream team,” said Glaspie. “Each one of us is a songwriter, so when we get together, everything becomes that much stronger.” Beyond raw skill, however, Glaspie cites a deep spiritual connection as the glue that binds them together. “Music is what brought us together, but it’s the spiritual bond that makes us play so in touch with each other,” she explained.
And at the core of their vibe is a deviously simple concept—the healing power of love.

DJ Logic and Brandon “Taz” Niederauer added to BK Bowl Show! July 6th!

Elise&Hayley_facbook-01
Just Announced!

DJ Logic will join Elise Testone and Hayley Jane & The Primates at the Brooklyn Bowl on July 6th. Logic will start the show and also spin between Elise and Hayley’s sets. We can’t wait!

Here’s a little of what the Brooklyn Bowl has to say about DJ Logic

“The theorem of turntablist as musician has been long proven in the capable hands of DJ LOGIC, whom with jazz as his foundation has become a wax innovator by crossing genres and sprinkling his sound across the map. As one of the world’s most accomplished turntablist’s, DJ LOGIC is widely credited for introducing jazz into the hip – hop realms and is considered by most as a highly respected session musician and an innovative bandleader.

Since his emergence in the early nineties amidst the Bronx hip-hop scene, the New York City based deejay has been amassing a veritable mountain of collaborations ranging from the likes of: MEDESKI MARTIN AND WOOD, CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE, VERNON REID, CHARLIE HUNTER, JACK DeJOHNETTE, JOHN MAYER, BEN HARPER, MOS DEF and THE ROOTS, to name but a few.

Elise Testone has also added guitar prodigy Brandon “Taz” Niederauer as a guest sit-in to her already stellar all star band! We’re very excited to see Taz play with Elise!

Here’s a little about Taz;

Thirteen-year-old guitarist Brandon Niederauer is living proof that dreams really do come true. Having played in the most legendary rooms in America with some of the most prominent musicians of our time, the young guitarist/singer/songwriter has built up quite the reputation in the music world, welcoming the nickname “Taz” amongst fans and peers alike.

It started when Brandon watched the movie School of Rock at eight-years-old. Also inspired by his father’s record collection, he instantly realized he wanted to play guitar. Four years later, he was cast as the principle role of guitarist “Zack Mooneyham” in the Tony Award- nominated Andrew Lloyd Webber Broadway production, School of Rock the Musical at the Winter Garden Theatre.

Living in New York City welcomes great opportunity for Brandon to play with some of his most idolized musicians. He’s had the brilliant experiences of playing with members of the Allman Brothers Band including Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks, Warren Haynes, and Oteil Burbridge, as well as other notable musicians such as Stevie Nicks, Lady Gaga, Jon Batiste, Dweezil Zappa, Eric Gales, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Dr. John, Gary Clark Jr., Col. Bruce Hampton, Eric Krasno, George Porter Jr., Robert Randolph, Karl Denson, Doug Wimbish, The Neville Brothers, Quinn Sullivan, and countless others. He has also played with Umphrey’s McGee, Scorpions, Dumpstaphunk, The Revivalists, Galactic, and so many more.

Live For Live Music Helps Spread The Word of The Primates KICKSTARTER

Live4LMLogo
Since the release of their last record, Gasoline, in 2014, Boston-based festival circuit favorites Hayley Jane and the Primates have brought their signature brand of genre-blending, vaudevillian story-centered live shows to audiences all over the country. Now, the band is ready to take their road-tested material to the studio, and they are reaching out to their ever-growing fan base to help fund the project.

The band has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the $12,000 needed to fulfill their vision for their new record. As Hayley Jane and company explain in the video on the campaign’s page, Gasoline was completed on a very tight schedule with limited funds, and they are hoping to be able to give their new release the time, effort, and resources it deserves in order to make a high-quality, professional product. With Turkuaz’s Craig Brodhead handling producing duties, the group plans to head to Syracuse, NY’s More Sound Recording Studios this August to track the as of yet untitled new album.

The band is offering an array of fun prizes for different donation levels, including free digital downloads, signed physical copies of both the new album and Gasoline, tickets to an upcoming show of your choice, Primates merch, personal mentions in the “Thank You” section of the new album’s liner notes, personalized thank you songs and videos from the band, an original song about you or a loved one, and even a full live performance at your home!

Glide Magazine Includes Hayley Jane & The Primates as One of Disc Jam’s Ten Artists Not to Miss

Yet again, Disc Jam offers one of the most musically adventurous festivals of the year. When perusing over the 60+ acts playing over four days on four stages, it’s hard to argue with that assessment. Conceived in June 2011 at Sturbridge, MA, Disc Jam has blossomed into a premier 4-day music festival destination set to take place June 9th-12th at a majestic location on Gardner’s Farm in Stephentown, NY for the 2nd year in a row – reasonably priced at $150.

10 Artists Not To Miss

Pigeons Playing Ping Pong

This quickly-ascending electro funk band knows how to bring the heat. Between Jeremy Schon’s meticulous guitar work or the confident front man Greg Ormont exhibiting style and strange facial expressions, this is a band to watch as they are professional musicians, yet the kind of guys you’d like to have a beer with.

Hayley Jane and the Primates

Hayley Jane’s beauty is only surpassed by her energy and overt vocal prowess. The band packs relentless grooves buoyed by Hayley’s charismatic stage presence.

Gubbulidis

The front man (Mihali Savoulidis) and bassist (Zdenek Gubb) of Twiddle put on an amazing intimate show with stripped down versions of Twiddle favorites mixed with an a sundry list of unique and varied covers.

Consider the Source

Experience a trip with this high-energy Middle Eastern Sci-Fi fusion. Guitar wizard, Gabriel Marin, has built a reputation as a master shredder while bassist, John Ferrera is a talent that virtually all bassists in the scene look up to.

Kung Fu

The jam/funk juggernaut is buoyed by double threat, superior axe man Tim Palmeiri and funkateer brass man, Rob Somerville, who deliver an incendiary show every time out.

Tauk

Tauk just had the honor to open for Twiddle at a sold-out show at the Capitol Theatre. Any in ear shot are always impressed by the intensity that resonates from this quickly-ascending instrumental outfit.
