It’s not easy to make it as a relatively new touring band. Life on the road can be tough, sometimes the crowd sizes can be discouraging and it’s difficult trying to carve out your own space in such a competitive market. However, Hayley Jane & The Primates are one of the most exciting and rapidly ascending bands touring the jamband circuit today.

The band possesses a natural sense of fearlessness on stage, which is fueled by their unquestionable chemistry, and daring sense to explore musical parts unknown by pushing the envelope in a live setting.

Hayley Jane & The Primates recently wrapped up their first ever tour below the Mason-Dixon line with stops in Asheville, Atlanta, Raleigh, Charleston, Richmond, Virginia Beach and D.C. Currently, the band is prepping for the release of their second full-length studio album which was produced by Craig Brodhead of Turkuaz and will come out sometime in 2017.

We had the opportunity to catch up with the band as they came through one of Washington, D.C.’s most beloved small venues; Gypsy Sally’s. We spoke about everything from the band’s influences, their aspirations and life on the road in an in-depth Q&A that was full of laughs, jokes and plenty of insightful moments that pulled back the veil to gave a glimpse of what life is like for a young, hungry and talented band with a very promising road in front of them.

The group consists of Hayley Jane (lead vocals, washboard), Justin Hancock (guitar, vocals), Josh Carter (bass, vocals), Greg Smith (guitar, vocals) and Ryan Clausen- (drums).

We are so excited to announce that Hayley Jane & The Primates will be joining many of our friends at this year’s Moe.Down Festival! The line-up is stacked including 7 sets of Moe, Blackberry Smoke, Fishbone, Railroad Earth, Twiddle, Ryan Montbleau, Kung Fu, Mike Dillion, Mister F, Ripe, and many more! See you at snow ridge in Turin, NY!

moe. is excited to announce that after nearly a 3 year hiatus, moe.down 16 will return over Fourth of July weekend, June 30 – July 2, to its home at Snow Ridge Ski Resort in Turin, NY for three days of music, camping and fun, with moe. scheduled to play seven sets over the entire weekend.

Tickets go on sale Friday, December 16th, at 12:00 PM EST. A limited number of Early Bird tickets are available at $130 and Early Bird VIP at $340. RV passes will be available at $100. For more information about tickets and VIP packages, please go to

“My best moe.down memory will always be opening moe.down 7, backing up my brother Michael on the main stage.”- Jim Loughlin

“To me, moe.down has always been a mix the best ‘laid back, friends and family, backyard throw downs.’ Musical and non-musician loved ones come from all over and as a result, we all have this special atmosphere where everything is better. Friends revel, everyone gets together with almost a singular communal purpose and the band reflects that onstage throughout the weekend. I look forward to having that back again this year and hopefully many more to come!

My favorite memories are of the amazing musicians that we get to share the stages with every year. Ha Ha The Moose, too.” – Chuck Garvey

“moe.down, for me, is a family event in many ways. My children have grown up there, and have made friends there. We look forward to it the same way one would look forward to a family reunion.”- Rob Derhak

Although the stages may have been dark and the ski lifts still over the past two summers, the moe.down discussions never stopped between moe. and Chuck Chao of Creative Concerts. The seventeen-year partnership knew it had something unique to offer when they threw their first moe.down in 2000, and the goal has always been to make each year more memorable than the last, while still retaining its intimate vibe.

The eclectic lineup of past moe.down performers includes: The Black Keys, Gary Clark, Jr., Cracker, TV On The Radio, Amos Lee, Ani DiFranco, Galactic, The Avett Brothers, Umphrey’s McGee, Grace Potter, Levon Helm w/Bob Weir, Cake, Ween, Perry Farrell’s Satellite Party, The Roots and many more.

2017 will see moe.down returning to its roots. Originally conceived as a weekend reunion the band could host for their friends, family and musical cohorts, the festival will once again focus on moe. and the extended moe.down 16 will keep all of your favorite moe.down pastimes, but try to add some mo’ moe. and a little less stress.

New festival options this year will include layaway payment plans, and an enhanced VIP experience including downloads of every moe. set, golf cart escort upon arrival and a commemorative laminate!
